Date published: 30 July 2010
GENEROUS carnival goers helped to raise more than £4,000 for local organisations and charities during this month’s Failsworth Carnival weekend.
Parade winners included St John’s Church’s “Under the Sea” themed float taking best overall; the 248 Manchester Hope Methodist Scouts comic book-theme won it the title of most entertaining float and Higher Failsworth School’s “Budding Gardeners” scooped best children’s float.
The winners of the Bonny Baby competition were Lucas White in the 0-6 month category, Thomas Rhodes in the 7-12 month, and Kira Flynn in the 13-24 month section.
The running of the carnival weekend was financed by grants from Oldham Council as well as grants from all six local councillors from the Failsworth East and West wards, and a contribution from Oldham Community Leisure Lifestyle.
Sponsorship in kind also came from Oldham Community Radio and the Rotary Club of Chadderton.
