Moor plans for the future

PLANS to turn the Crompton Moor beauty spot into a playground for locals have taken a step forward.
People who use the moor were invited to put their views forward at a meeting to help Oldham Council pull together its plans for the future.
The authority is looking at how best to enhance the moor for recreational, educational and social benefits, without adversely affecting its environment.
It wants to improve the footpath and bridleway network with better waymarking and promotion of health walks.
The plans also aim to attract more wildlife, provide viewpoints, seats and off-road bicycle and mobility scooter tracks, as well as encouraging the whole community to make use of the moor through ideas such as school parties.
Councillor Mark Alcock, cabinet member for citizens and neighbourhoods, who attended the meeting at St George’s Primary School, Shaw, said: “Crompton Moor is one of the borough’s real natural beauty spots and deserves to be enjoyed by as many citizens as possible.”
