Search for the woman of year
Date published: 02 August 2010
The search is on to find the Woman of Oldham 2010.
The 18th Woman of Oldham lunch takes place at the White Hart Hotel, Lydgate, on September 22.
The winner, who must live, work or volunteer in Oldham, will be presented with the Oldham Evening Chronicle crystal bowl.
Last year’s winner was Barbara Dignan, of Royton, who was honoured for her countless hours of voluntary work carried out over many years.
Mrs Dignan (74), will relinquish her title to a woman who is nominated in the next few weeks and chosen by judges to be worthy of the accolade.
Last year’s Woman of Oldham luncheon and fundraising events run by the committee throughout the year raised a record £13,000 for the Victoria Breast Care Unit at the Royal Oldham Hospital.
Money raised this year will go to Oldham Mountain Rescue.
The Woman of Oldham Committee has raised £73,000 to support local causes and charities since it was formed, as well as highlighting the good work done by many women over the years.
