Witness plea over failed bank raid

MASKED men smashed the windows of a Mossley bank in the second attempted raid in three months.
Police were called to the Royal Bank of Scotland in Stamford Road at 3.40pm yesterday following reports of a robbery.
Four masked men had smashed windows at the bank with hammers before leaving in a silver Audi.
A security van was at the bank but the guards drove away when the attack was taking place. Nobody was hurt during the incident.
Just before 3.50pm, a silver Audi was abandoned and four men were seen getting into a black 1 series BMW.
Det-Insp Dave Moores said: “While members of staff and the public may have been shaken up, nothing was stolen and nobody was hurt in this incident.
“We have a number of positive lines of inquiry but we are asking more witnesses to call us and tell us what they may have seen.”
In May, masked robbers used a lump of iron to try to smash their way into the bank but the pair failed to get their hands on any money.
Two years ago a masked robber threatened a delivery guard with a machete outside the bank before making off with the cash box he was carrying, which contained a substantial amount of money.
Anyone with any information is asked to call police on 0161-856 9250 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800-555 111.
