Ex-councillor dies, aged 84

A FORMER Labour councillor has died aged 84.
Veronica Connell, who served in Clarksfield and Hollinwood from 1971 to 1988, died following an illness at Shawside Nursing Home on Sunday.
The great-grandmother worked as a magistrate for 19 years and as an engineering inspector at Ferranti in Hollinwood before she became a councillor.
Veronica, whose husband, Robert, died 12 years ago, leaves behind sons Peter and Michael, grandchildren Vicky, Ben, Michael, Guy and Ashley and great-grandchildren Harrison and Isabella.
The funeral will take place on Monday at Hollinwood Crematorium at 3.30pm.
