BUDDING singer Maria Marcial is urging Oldhamers to get behind her mission to take over the pop world.

The 27-year-old has made the final of Music Crown 2010 and the winner will now be decided by a public vote.

Music Crown 2010 is an online competition where applicants submit songs they have written and performed themselves.

A panel of judges then whittle the thousands of applications down to a top 10 before the public decide the overall winner.

Maria submitted “No Compromise” — a song she wrote and produced as well as sang — for judging by a celebrity panel that included singers Shola Ama, Montell Jordan and Ali Campbell.

From more than a thousand entrants Maria has made the top 10 and is calling for Evening Chronicle readers to log on and vote for her. Maria, a youth worker at Failsworth Youth Centre, said: “I’ve always wanted to be a singer so it would mean everything to me to win this competition.

“I’ve entered lots of competitions in the past and got really close but not quite made it so I really want to win this one.”

If Maria wins she will get a recording contract as well as help to market herself in the music world.

To vote for Maria, search for Pop Music Crown on Facebook and then click on her name before August 31.
