A HANDFUL of Royton businesses have been rewarded for doing their bit to keep the borough tidy.
The retailers, all based in Rochdale Road, have won Keep Britain Tidy awards after making changes to the way they operate and implementing measures to keep their premises clean.
The businesses, which range from a sweet shop to a chippy, are all located on the judging route for North West in Bloom 2010.
Seven firms won bronze awards, and Gardeners Chemist won a silver award for taking extra steps to reduce its impact on the environment.
These are the first local companies to join the nationally-accredited scheme run by the anti-litter charity Keep Britain Tidy.
