‘Double standards’ row on yellow lines

ACCUSATIONS of double standards have been raised after this traffic warden was snapped booking a car while parked on double yellow lines himself.

Evening Chronicle reader Nick Watts spotted him putting a ticket on a car in Court Street, Uppermill, at around 12:45pm on Saturday after leaving his own scooter illegally parked.

He said: “This is not the first time I’ve seen this happen, but it is the first chance I’ve had to take a photograph of it.

“While parking enforcement officers may not serve the most popular role in supporting the local community, they do have a job to do like anyone else.

“However, I’m not sure that they’re going to do much to improve their popularity when they themselves break the very rules they are supposed to be there to enforce.”

But the warden was operating within the rules. An Oldham Council spokesman said: “Under national guidelines, civil enforcement officers are exempt from traffic regulations while undergoing enforcement duties.”

He added that traffic wardens are told to always try and find somewhere legal to park first, but can park on double yellow lines while issuing tickets if it’s not possible.
