The lost posts

WE know they're here somewhere... Goal posts at Clayton playing fields are in a poor state.
FOOTBALLERS face a struggle to find the back of the net during amateur matches in Oldham — because the goalposts have become so tatty they are almost camouflaged.
Football pitches have been prepared for the new season across the borough but at Clayton Playing Fields and Heyside football pitches the postsare in a sorry state.
Paul Murphy, from Royton, said: “The council has again decided to use camouflage goalposts on the likes of Clayton and Heyside football fields.
“I understand the council spending thousands of pounds on decorating the town with fantastic flower displays but decorating goalposts to look like silver birch trees is going a bit too far.
“As a member of a large club in Oldham we spend more £5,000 to the council to use these football fields and having white goalposts should come as standard.
“The council doesn’t have changing rooms or toilets at these locations so a minimum it could do in the summer months might have been to treat the rust by undercoating and painting the goalposts white.”
An Oldham Council spokesman said parks staff will be giving the goalposts a lick of paint.
