LAST orders . . . retired Sylvia outside the Bank Top Tavern.
AN OLDHAM licensee called time on pulling pints yesterday after 42 years in the trade.
Sylvia Diggle (63), who lives in Chadderton, was only 21 when her name first appeared above the door of High Crompton Conservative Club.
Having worked in a number of pubs across the borough, Sylvia has run the Bank Top Tavern in King Street, Oldham, for the past two years but felt the time was right to hang up her bar towel.
She said: “I trained as a nurse when I was 18 but my husband Michael suggested going into the pub trade and I liked the idea.
“I just love people and the job suits my personality.
“I’ve worked on and off as a licensee over the past 42 years but have now decided to call it a day.”
