TOWN centre shops will be saying it with flowers tomorrow by handing out blooms as a thank-you to loyal customers.

More than 1,000 flowers will be given to shoppers by members of the Oldham Business Improvement District (BID).

The group will be showing its flower power as a way of showing its appreciation to an army of loyal customers and their positive feedback on the latest floral displays.

The private sector group, which has worked with the council, have helped to fund much of the planting work undertaken in the town centre including bollard baskets, troughs and tree planters.

Paul Hughes, chairman of the BID and owner of Zutti Co in Yorkshire Street, said: “We hope shoppers enjoy this gesture and continue to appreciate the great work that has been done to enhance the town centre which has again been bursting with colour this summer.

“A positive and attractive environment makes for happier customers and traders alike.”

Councillor Jackie Stanton, deputy council leader, said: “The BID is an invaluable partner in our drive to make Oldham town centre a safer, cleaner and greener environment.”

“Over the course of this financial year, BID will spend around £30,000 on planting and its commitment goes beyond that.”

Oldham Council staff will also be hosting floral arrangement demonstrations in the Spindles tomorrow between 11am and 3pm.
