Date published: 20 August 2010
A BLUE Coat School student is following in the steps of Prime Minister David Cameron by studying the same degree as him at Oxford University.
Lucy Drain (18), from Werneth Rise, Hyde, scooped A* grades in English, history and maths, and A in French and general studies.
She will be studying philosophy, politics and economics at Keeble College Oxford.
Lucy said: “I was so nervous on Wednesday night — I only had three hours sleep. I was so pleased to get the results I did, but I don’t want to be the next David Cameron.”
Pal Rachel Donallon (18), from Arndale Rise, Waterhead, is also heading to Oxford having got an A* in history and A in religious studies, physical education and general studies. She will read history at Worcester College.
She said: “I was pretty nervous when I went to the school office to get my results. My mum was in tears when I told her what I’d got.
“I’ve no idea about what I want to do after my degree, I just want to enjoy the course and see what happens.”
Blue Coat head teacher Julie Hollis said over half of all grades achieved by A-Level students were either A*, A or B.
Overall, 92 per cent of the year group are heading to university, with 5 per cent on gap year and 3 per cent going straight into employment.
She said: “We are absolutely delighted with out students’ achievements.”
