SUMMER activities are keeping children out of trouble and helping to drive down anti-social behaviour.
Figures show the number of recorded incidents dropped by 34 per cent in July compared with the same period last year.
Thousands of activities — most free — have been offering youngsters the opportunity to fill their free time.
Councillor Rod Blyth said: “Oldham Council is firmly committed to tackling anti-social behaviour, while at the same time providing a wealth of opportunities and activities for our young people to enjoy.
“These figures speak for themselves — the co-ordinated approach to youth provision we have used does work.
“If you offer young people new and exciting things to do they will happily give it a go and get involved in their community, which can only be a positive thing.”
Chief Inspector Rob Tinsley said: “Anti-social behaviour is one of the main issues residents tell us is affecting their quality of life, so it’s great to see that the hard work of the Neighbourhood Policing Teams, Oldham Council and other organisations is having an impact.”
