Silent farewell to Mumps Bridge
Date published: 24 August 2010
Only days before work starts to demolish Mumps Bridge to make way for Metrolink, an eagle-eyed Chronicle reader has spotted a mystery man waving a silent farewell.
Ian Hollingworth, of Wall Hill Cottages, Dobcross, snapped this image of what appears to be a tramp waving at passers by.
But the tramp has some time left before he disappears for good.
For while the northern section of the bridge, which goes over the road leading away from Oldham town centre, is due to be dismantled and removed this weekend, the southern section, over the road leading into the town centre, is not due to be removed until a later date.
