COULD these be the Boundary Park arsonists?
Police have released CCTV images of two teenagers scaling a perimeter fence at Athletic’s ground shortly before it was set alight at 5.15pm on Sunday.
A pallet was set ablaze close to the Corner Flag hospitality suite — situated above a disabled area at the Broadway side of the stadium.
The fire ripped through the wheelchair section and part of the suite causing £40,000 worth of damage.
The lads are seen jumping back over the fence as the flames take hold.
Both boys are white and aged between 14 and 18-years-old. The first has short dark hair and was dressed entirely in black. The other has short fair hair. He was wearing a blue T-shirt and blue three-quarter-length shorts.
Detective Constable Stewart Lindsay, of Oldham CID, said: “While nobody was in the ground at the time, whoever lit this fire was reckless and had no regard for the fans.
“I’d ask people to take a good look at these images and if anyone recognises either of these people, contact me.”
Club officials are confident Saturday’s League One match against Yeovil Town at Boundary Park will go ahead.
Chief executive Alan Hardy said this morning: “There’s still some work to do but we don’t anticipate any problems.”
