BANNERS were unfurled at Radclyffe and St Augustine schools to honour their record-breaking pupils.

They proudly welcomed nervous teenagers who arrived to collect their GCSE grades during a morning of celebrations.

Results at Radclyffe rose for the third year in a row with a record 89 per cent of pupils gaining five A* to C grades (51 per cent including English and maths).

The 322 A* grades was also the highest ever.

Delighted head teacher Hardial Hayer said: “These results are the best we have ever achieved by every single measure. I salute these record-breaking students and I am delighted that the hard work of students and staff has been rewarded.”

St Augustine pupils notched up a 63 per cent A* to C pass rate. The figure including English and maths was a record 39 per cent.

The results mark the end of the first year of the school’s new curriculum which has seen Year 9 and 10 pupils study at least two GCSE or BTEC subjects in just one year.

Head teacher Mike McGhee said: “These results are excellent. The students have worked extremely hard and have been very positive, both in their studies and in the contributions to the life of the school.”
