Bowing out on a high note

GCSE:

SOUTH Chadderton School bowed out with much improved results before being transformed into an academy.

The percentage of students achieving five A*-C grades was up from 60 per cent to 77 per cent. Including maths and English, the percentage went up from 36 per cent to 44 per cent.

Head teacher Rachel Quesnel said: “We are delighted. It’s been a transitional year, getting ready to open as Oasis Academy Oldham next month. Staff and students have worked extremely hard and there’s been a real focus on keeping high standards.”

Daniel Halstead (16), from Chadderton, got three As, four Bs and two Cs and is going to Oldham Sixth-Form College to do four A-levels and is considering studying maths at university.

He said: “I’m disappointed about two of my results but overall I’m happy. It was enough to get into college.”

Emma Curren (16), from Chadderton, got two As, four Bs and one C as well as a pass in ICT and a distinction in sport. She’s going to Oldham Sixth Form College to do four A-Levels and is considering studying graphic design at university.

She said: “I was not expecting to do that well. My parents thought it was great.”

Connor Hall (16), from Chadderton, got an A*, an A, six Bs and a distinction in business. He’s going to Oldham Sixth-Form College to study four A-levels.

He said: “I’m really happy. The preparation was hard but I’m quite relaxed. I was not expecting to do that well. My parents were really happy with me.”
