Brave Emily battles through fears for crash-injury mum

GCSE:

A BRAVE Kaskenmoor pupil, who sat exams only days after her mum was critically injured in a car crash, cried tears of joy as she opened her GCSE results.

Emily Clare (16), from Hollins, was ecstatic as she read aloud her achievements with her mum by her side.

It has been a tough year for the dedicated teenager, who had to sit her science modules in a teacher’s office as her mum lay in intensive care — a result of a 25-car pile-up on the A627 in January.

Paula was crushed by a Transit van which skidded on ice during one of Oldham’s worst winters. She was rushed to hospital with broken ribs and a broken pelvis.

A jubilant Emily notched up an impressive 14.5 GCSEs including a grade A in English language and Bs in maths and art.

She said: “My mum says she is so proud of me that I have been able to get through this year and get good grades.

“I feel the work has really paid off, especially getting a C in double-award science after what happened.

“My mum is doing really well now — she gave me a massive hug when I told her my results.”

Emily has now secured a place at Oldham Sixth-Form College to study archaeology and would love to work in a museum in the future.

Another stand-out pupil at Kaskenmoor was Michael Wright (16), who made a dramatic turn around to achieve A grades in maths and history, after being excluded just a year into secondary school.

The thrilled teen was also selected as deputy head boy and said he was “over the moon” with his results.
