OLDHAM’S GCSE stars have achieved the borough’s best ever results.
Individual schools reported record grades as well as outstanding personal achievements.
And the borough is expected to have chalked up its highest number of pupils gaining at last 5 A* to C grades, including English and maths.
Last year’s figure was 47 per cent, with three schools failing to meet the Government’s target of 30 per cent.
Council leader Howard Sykes said: “Early indications are that this has been another record-breaking year for our students, and I would like to congratulate them — and school staff — on all their hard work.
“The number of students who have achieved five or more GCSEs including English and maths or equivalent is set to break all records in Oldham.
“Students and staff should be congratulated on the excellent results.”
