Dog-nap fears after Yorkie vanishes

A distraught dog owner is pleading for help after fears her beloved 11-year-old Yorkshire terrier has been dog-napped.

Jessica, a miniature Yorkie, was last seen by Elaine Beswick as she played happily with her companion outside her home in Waterhead.

But contentment turned to panic when Elaine realised the dog had gone missing as she turned to lock her front door around 4pm on Wednesday.

A frantic search of the local area failed to find the pocket-sized pooch — but in a message via social networking website Facebook, one local said they had seen a similar dog being picked up by a youth and put into a car at the near-by Shell petrol station on Huddersfield Road.

An emotional Elaine, of Watergate Milne Court, said: “She is so small and timid. She will be really scared.

“I’m so worried because she never leaves my side. She is my life, my daughters have grown up now so it is just me and her. I don’t know what I would do without her.”

The duo have been side by side since Jessica was a pup. The petrol station has agreed to let Elaine check the CCTV footage for clues as to the dog’s whereabouts.

Panic-stricken Elaine has tried the police and the dog warden without success and has now put out a heartfelt plea to anyone with information to get in touch.

She said: “Please just bring her back if you have got her. I need her back. Everywhere I go, she goes.”
