SADDLEWORTH care business owner and former fitness professional Mick Sheehan has been providing personal training sessions to two women about to take part in the Great North Run.

Alison Bradbury, from Uppermill, and Sue Spedding, from Wakefield, have been clocking up the miles for a cause that is very close to their hearts — The Alzheimer’s Society.

Sue’s Dad was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s five years ago and the pair want to raise as much money and awareness about the illness as possible on Sunday, September 19.

Sue said: “This is a dreadful illness that affects not only the individual but the whole family so anything that we can do to help raise awareness and assist research will help others in the future.”

Mick, who used to own Lifestyle Fitness Centre, Greenfield, now runs Home Instead Senior Care in Uppermill, a service that helps to support the elderly to live independently in their own homes.

He added: “We are helping to care for an increasing number of clients with Alzheimer’s and dementia and we see first hand the effect that this illness can have on individuals and their loved ones.
