SIT back and admire . . . residents and Street Scene staff relax in their new surroundings
A neglected alley off Ripponden Road has become a place for neighbours to enjoy after residents, council staff and young offenders all mucked in to lend a hand.
The alley, near Rixon Street, Oldham, was gated two years ago to reduce anti-social behaviour. But it needed more work to make it tidier and more useful.
The funds came from Oldham Council’s Priority Investment Fund and the Community Payback scheme, meaning the alley could be cleared and levelled, and benches and planters installed. Future maintenance is now the responsibility of the residents.
Councillor Mark Alcock said: “Now this work has been done I look forward to seeing how residents plan to make it even better and brighter.”
