MODERN art . . . getting ready for the show
An internationally-acclaimed show which uses grains of rice to bring the world of statistics to life was launched at Gallery Oldham today.
“Of All The People In All The World” is an exhibition by the Stan’s Café Theatre Company.
Visitors are presented with a single grain of rice to represent themselves when they arrive and are then invited to compare that grain to the tonne of rice which is everyone else in the UK.
Each day a team of performers will be carefully weighing out rice to represent different statistics.
The exhibition will tell a local story and allow visitors to compare their borough to other parts of the UK.
Councillor Kay Knox said: “This is a truly unique interactive exhibition which has caused a sensation around the world and is now remade especially for Oldham with local statistics.
“This show will change every day and we are also inviting visitors to make their own suggestions for statistics and see them weighed out and added to the exhibition.”
The show runs Monday to Saturday from 10am to 5pm and on Sundays from 10am to 4pm until September 28.
