A Greenacres couple are still looking for answers after the sudden death of their only daughter on a Greek holiday.

Twelve-year-old Jordan Olivia Jones died as she enjoyed a two-week break with her grandad Brian Jones, from Springhead, in Corfu. She had just got out of the swimming pool to retrieve a football when she collapsed.

Despite immediate medical care by an English nurse also on holiday, nothing could save her.

Football and dance-mad Jordan’s funeral was held at Greenacres Congregational Church on Thursday and donations were taken for the Francis House Children’s Hospice.

Her mum Emma Jones, and father Lee Eadsforth, speaking for the first time since their daughter’s death on August 14, said: “Brian had been going to the resort for about 18 years, twice a year. He wanted to treat her before going back to school.

“She just suddenly collapsed. We travelled to Corfu but no-one could give an explanation when we got there. It has devastated the resort.”

Emma, a nursing assistant at the Royal Oldham Hospital, added: “The reason for her death has not been ascertained. We are waiting for test results which could take quite a few months. She had been very healthy, had never gone sick and not been poorly.

Jordan, who was a Manchester United fan and danced with the Royelles troupe in Oldham, was a former Hey with Zion primary pupil in Lees.

Her father said: “Hundreds of people turned out for the funeral, teachers from her school, and even dinner ladies from Hey with Zion were there. The new principal at Waterhead Academy, David Yates, contacted us as well.” Olivia was to have started there.

Emma father, an electrician at Tanner Brothers in Greenfield, is still coming to terms with the tragedy.

An inquest into Olivia’s death has been opened.
