Wednesday night is bother night

A SPIKE in anti-social behaviour on Wednesday nights has been spotted by officers on the Oldham East Neighbourhood Policing Team, despite an overall drop in incidents across the three wards — St James, St Mary’s and Waterhead.
Officers are investigating reasons for up to 10 incidents every Wednesday night over the past three weeks along Ripponden Road and Huddersfield Road.
Oldham East Insp Melita Worswick said: “It has become a real peak period and we don’t know why.
“It could be a blip or it could be something attracting people on those nights.”
Insp Worswick said incidents of anti-social behaviour had dropped during the school summer holidays due to the Go Oldham project and community work by partner organisations.
She said while young people were often blamed, adults drinking alcohol could sometimes be the cause of problems. In her policing round-up, she reassured the District Partnership that there are no plans to cut the numbers of Police Community Support Officers (PCSO) in the East Oldham area despite cutbacks in the Greater Manchester Police force.
