A PUBLIC exhibition showcasing plans to redevelop JD Williams’ Beal Lane site in Shaw has proved a success.
The home shopping retailer said it was delighted with the level of support demonstrated by residents towards its revised plans.
The exhibition was held over three days at Tara Sports and Leisure last month and was attended by 94 people.
Residents were able to view the plans and speak to members of the development team who were on hand to answer questions regarding the proposals.
More than 85 per cent of people who completed a feedback form considered the revamped scheme to be an improvement on the previous plans.
The proposals, if passed, would secure the future of the current 1,000 jobs at the Shaw site as well as creating up to 120 additional jobs.
Ian Carr, general manager at JD Williams, said: “We are extremely grateful to all those who attended the exhibition and are delighted with the support local people have shown for the revised proposals, with an overwhelming majority of attendees agreeing that the plans are an improvement on the previous scheme.
“Consultation with the local community has allowed us to speak with local residents, political representatives and other groups to seek their views on the proposals.
“We are currently reviewing all the feedback received at the exhibition and will endeavour to incorporate as many of the comments and suggestions received into the plans, where possible.”
JD Williams intends to submit a revised planning application for the new building in the coming weeks.
It is hoped that a decison on the proposals will be made by Oldham Council’s Planning Committee by the end of the year.
