Mary Brown . . . “I don’t feel 100”
Great-grandmother Mary Brown has 100 reasons to celebrate today.
The independent centenarian will toast her milestone birthday at her Chadderton home where she has lived for nearly 70 years.
But the former tailoress said: “It is just another day. I do not feel 100!”
Mary was born in Edinburgh and moved to Chadderton when her late husband, William, got a job in a local bakery.
They had one daughter, Elizabeth, who died 21 years ago and four grandchildren — Rob, Stuart, Graham and Pam.
The family has now expanded to include 14 great-grandchildren who all live locally, while Mary’s 90-year-old sister, Margaret, is in Edinburgh.
Mary still lives in her own home with help from her family and carers. “She is very independent and likes to have a laugh with us,” said her granddaughter, Pam Whitworth.
