Campers turn beauty spot into a rubbish tip
Date published: 10 September 2010
Thoughtless behaviour by a group of campers who left beer cans, sleeping bags and rubbish at a local beauty spot has been described as “completely unacceptable”.
Members of Oldham Council’s First Response team were alerted to the site near Brushes Clough reservoir, on Crompton Moor, by a call from a member of the public.
Police were also contacted after another report that campers were breaking trees.
The site is designated for wildlife and receives thousands of visits each year.
Councillor Mark Alcock, Cabinet member for citizens and neighbourhoods, said: “Brushes Clough is an area of beauty on Crompton Moor and is there for all the public to enjoy. All we ask of people using the site is that they take nothing but photographs, and leave behind nothing but footprints.
“This kind of anti-social behaviour is completely unacceptable and we would be grateful for any information about who these campers were.”
