PARISH councillors have backed an appeal against an Oldham Council planning decision.
Small distribution company BearArm Ltd is attempting to buy the vacant Old Liberal Club in Duke Street, Shaw, so it can move the business in.
It was granted permission but Oldham planners placed a condition that this would automatically expire after 12 months so it could monitor traffic impact on Duke Street.
The firm says this made the planning permission ineffective — banks wouldn’t advance money for the purchase if there was a risk of trading being stopped in as little as ayear.
Managing director Peter Schofield has appealed against the condition and received the backing of Shaw and Crompton parish councillors, who agreed the condition was unfair
