A FORMER Barnardo’s boy has supported a disabled athlete on a mammoth charity run.
Keith Cockburn (60), from Shaw, joined ultra-distance runner Chris Moon MBE for the Ashton to Manchester stage of his 1,000-mile charity run around the UK.
The Post Office worker, who spent his early years in Barnardo’s homes, ran the eight miles from Ashton Post Office in the Arcade Shopping Centre to Manchester Post Office in Spring Gardens alongside Chris to help mark the first month-long Barnardo’s Believe in Children Month Appeal.
Chris has embarked on the ultimate challenge by running an average of 36 miles a day for 30 days — a distance of more than 1,000 miles.
He began the Post Office 1000 Challenge in Edinburgh on September 1 and will finish in London at the end of the month.
He is calling in at Barnardo’s projects, Post Office branches, Royal Mail and Parcelforce Worldwide operational sites en route and meeting staff who have been busy raising funds for Barnardo’s.
