KINGFISHER Special School can be summed up in one word — outstanding.

It has swept the board with top marks from the education watchdog Ofsted three years after achieving the same feat.

And the good news comes as work starts on a £2.5 million makeover at the school in Foxdenton Lane, Chadderton. This will create tailored learning hubs for pupils with similar needs, a new entrance and an administration and staff block.

Kingfisher has 119 pupils with a range of special educational needs and disabilities, including autism and complex medical conditions.

Inspectors spent two days there and said: “Kingfisher is an outstanding school which well deserves its outstanding reputation with parents and carers, and the community.

“Parents’ and carers’ views are reflected well in the comment ‘I could not wish for my child to be in better hands. He sits and waits for the school bus because he loves school so much’.

“The head teacher and senior leaders have high expectations of what pupils can achieve and deliver the quality of provision necessary for them to do so.”

Kingfisher was rated as outstanding in every area, even making improvements since its similarly excellent inspection in 2007.

Delighted head teacher Anne Redmond said Kingfisher continued to go from strength-to-strength.

“We are especially pleased to have had the progress and achievements of the pupils recognised as a result of the excellent teaching and personalised approach to learning that Kingfisher provides,” she said.
