CRACKDOWN on anti-social behaviour has been a success
A POLICE operation to tackle anti-social behaviour over the summer holidays has been hailed a success.
Officers from the Oldham East Neighbourhood Policing Team launched Operation Algebra in response to community concerns about a rise in anti-social behaviour at the weekend.
Between August 5 and 27, officers increased patrols in Stoneleigh Park, Waterhead Park, Wellyhole Street, Beresford Street and Shakespeare Road areas, resulting in five arrests.
Two people were issued with fixed penalty notices for drunk and disorderly behaviour and one person has been charged with a public order offence.
Officers also carried out 18 stop-and-accounts, and referred three young people to Oldham Council’s anti-social behaviour team.
The neighbourhood team have also been clamping down on traffic issues, with the seizure of one vehicle without insurance or MOT and fixed-penalty notices issued to drivers for causing obstruction.
PC Sarah Bull, of the Oldham East Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “Tackling anti-social behaviour is a priority for the team, as it is one of the main concerns for our residents.
“We have had some really positive feedback from the agencies we’ve worked with during the operation, including First Choice Homes Oldham and Oldham Council’s Licensing department.
“Most importantly, residents have passed on their thanks for cracking down on vehicle nuisance and making their neighbourhood a more pleasant place to live.
“As part of our Service Promise we will continue to listen and act on community concerns and work with them to make their neighbourhoods safer.”
