DISCOVERY . . . the plants
A FAILSWORTH man set fire to his wardrobe while trying to keep cannabis plants warm.
Police were called to a flat in Wrigley Head at 4.25am on Wednesday following reports of a fire.
Officers found a small number of cannabis plants and cultivating equipment inside a fitted wardrobe which had caught fire.
No-one was hurt in the blaze and a 31-year-old man was cautioned for cultivating cannabis.
Inspector Muz Kernain, from the Failsworth and Hollinwood neighbourhood policing team, said: “The growing of cannabis plants takes a huge amount of electricity, the use of which is obviously unregulated.
“As a result, anyone stupid enough to grow their own cannabis runs the risk of putting their lives and the lives of others in danger.”
“In this case the plants were kept in a wooden wardrobe which heated up to dangerous levels.”
