COMMUNITY health services for children, young people and families in Oldham have been boosted by the appointment of a community nursing expert with 22 years experience.

Jane Ramm will lead the Oldham Children’s Community Nursing Team as an advanced nurse practitioner and the team manager.

Despite only starting last month, she has already set her sights on developing the team’s skills and services.

She said: “Our aim is to ensure that we are available to as many families as possible, treating children and young people at home or in the community at the most convenient times and helping them to avoid the disruption of going to hospital if it can be avoided.

“The team here is already doing a great job and we are working together on developing more nurse-led clinics and identifying opportunities to work with other parties including the local authority, GPs and other health practitioners.”

Jane comes to Oldham after working with NHS Bolton as a specialist in adolescent health, helping the most vulnerable young people. She joins the service as plans are being developed to build a new children’s unit at the Royal Oldham Hospital.

Dr Patrick Miller, lead paediatrician for the Greater Manchester Paediatric Clinical Network, said: “The development of the community nursing team and the appointment of experienced nurses like Jane will enable us to deliver a wide range of treatments at home, where both children and parents have said they prefer to be.”
