Drivers get Grains Road green light

Workers have installed large temporary supports to allow Grains Road to reopen
GRAINS Road has been reopened to through traffic for the first time in a month.
Safety concerns involved in renovating the road’s retaining walls forced the emergency closure four weeks ago.
Contractors have now completed the work on time to install temporary supports, allowing the existing wall to be taken down safely.
A support wall has been put in place to ensure commuters are not disrupted further, with drivers being forced to make a detour through Denshaw to reach their destination.
Work has been taking place on the B6197 — connecting Grains Bar and Delph village — for the past 12 weeks.
The project started in June, with an estimated construction time of 24 weeks.
No way through
MOTORISTS in Strinesdale face diversions as Roebuck Lane is closed until March, 2011, for vital repair work.
Retaining walls along the wall will be reconstructed and repaired as part of a £20 million scheme.
The work is part of a wider programme to repair retaining walls in Oldham and in Rochdale, Stockport and Tameside.
