AN Oxford graduate is helping to put Saddleworth back on the map.

Victor Khadem (21), from Uppermill, is one of the editors of a second volume of “Mapping Saddleworth”.

He was driven by his love of Saddleworth and its quaint stone buildings to study history at university.

He even wrote his dissertation on the history of the area and its buildings during the 17th century.

One of the youngest members of Saddleworth Historical Society, Victor has now helped to compile over 20 maps for the book due for release this weekend. Following on from the first successful installation, the book reveals maps of the area from 1625 to 1822.

He said: “It’s rare that you can be involved in a project from having the idea to completion — seeing the final print is fantastic.

“The maps are beautifully hand drawn and anyone with an interest in local history can quite easily chart the history of local buildings.”

The book has been co-edited by society chairman Mike Buckley and members John Widdall, David Harrison and Alan Petford. It will be launched at Saddleworth Museum on Saturday at 3pm.
