CANCER Research UK fund-raiser for Oldham, Lizzie Jones, has issued a rallying call to join the fight for women’s survival.
The move partners the charity’s breast cancer awareness campaign.
Lizzie, area volunteer manager for Oldham, donned a pink camouflage outfit along with her colleagues to launch the drive.
The campaign is supported by pink and blue camouflage ribbons which symbolise the role scientists play on the front line in the battle against breast cancer.
The disease affects around 5,290 women each year in the North-West alone — and more than 45,500 nationally.
Lizzie said: “The message to everyone is clear — Cancer Research UK needs you!”
The last few years have seen a surge in the number of women to have been diagnosed with breast cancer.
But thanks to research into earlier diagnosis and better treatment, more women are also surviving.
The charity’s work has revolutionised treatments for women with breast cancer, and it has been involved in the pioneering use of mammography as well as vital clinical trials of drugs.
Lizzie added: “We need everyone in Oldham to get involved. Our research is beating breast cancer but we still need people to help us fight harder. Every penny raised will help save more lives in the future.”
