Teenager dies after car crash

A teenager died in hospital after his car smashed into railings early this morning.
Firefighters battled to cut Billy Darren Cooney (19) from Failsworth, free from the wreckage of a Vauxhall Corsa.
The car had rammed into railings at the Elk Mill roundabout slip road at 5am.
Mr Cooney was taken to the Royal Oldham Hospital with serious head injuries, which proved fatal ahortly afterwards.
The accident happened where the motorway link road joins Broadway, around 200 yards from Chadderton Fire Station.
Drivers faced rush-hour chaos as the road remained closed to traffic heading to Manchester.
