Christmas opening for Greenfield store?
Date published: 27 September 2010
Christmas opening? The new Greenfield Tesco takes shape.
SHOPPERS in Saddleworth could be flocking to a new Tesco superstore in Greenfield sooner than expected.
Construction work is speeding ahead as the building’s steel structure begins to rise from the site.
Posters on fences surrounding the site in Chew Valley Road announce that the store will be opening in December. Workers have picked up the pace to construct the 25,000 sq ft building, originally planned for completion in early 2011.
It is now a race to finish construction and fit out the store for the festive period.
It’s the dawn of a new era for the former Wellington mill site, which was built in 1853 and later housed the Knoll Spinning company. The mill stood empty for four years after a planning application by the superstore was passed by Oldham Council in 2005.
