Date published: 28 September 2010
FANS of Bollywood music and gospel can join two new community-based singing groups launched by Oldham Council’s Music Service.
Bollywood Buzz is a group dedicated to Bollywood music, dance and singing.
It is led by musical director Rakesh Joshi, a highly-experienced teacher and composer specialising in Indian music, who has run numerous workshops in the North-West.
The group meets every Wednesday, from 6.30 to 8.30pm, at the Indian Cultural Centre, Schofield Street, Hathershaw.
Soul Inspiration is a new gospel choir under the leadership of Kadria Thomas, who has more than 30 years experience singing in choral groups.
She has worked with children and young adults of all ages and abilities, and run vocal and songwriting sessions in schools and community groups.
The choir meets every Wednesday, from 7 until 9pm, at the Sholver Youth Centre, Sholver Lane.
The groups have been established following the success of the music service’s Community Pop Choir, which has been established for just over a year and has more than 50 members.
