AN 11-year-old school girl spent five days in hospital after being shot with a pellet gun in Limeside.
The girl was walking along a path between Walkers Road and Oak Road with her father when she felt pain in her left arm.
But it was only when she got home that she saw the wound was bleeding and she was taken to hospital.
It was then discovered that she had been shot with a pellet, which remains lodged in her arm.
She spent five days in hospital and is now recovering at home.
Police are appealing for any witnesses to the attack, which happened at around 4.30pm on September 14.
Det Con Mark Tiffany, of Oldham CID, said: “I do not know why this young girl was targeted but incidents like this are rare and completely unacceptable.
“She was doing absolutely nothing wrong when she was shot.
“Although she suffered a nasty injury, the fact that someone was out firing the weapon means that the injury could have been a lot worse.
“I would appeal to anyone who knows who is responsible to come forward and contact police.”
Anyone with information about the incidentis asked to call Oldham CID on 0161-856 8955 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800-555 111.
