Police praise cash-back children

SOME of the money dumped by raiders
CHILDREN have been praised by the police for helping to return thousand of pounds dumped by raiders in Shaw.
Two masked robbers escaped with around £6,000 from the Royal Bank of Scotland, Rochdale Road, at about 4.45pm on Wednesday.
They dumped their loot close by when security dye used to protect the money exploded. Some eye witnesses said children pocketed the cash which was blowing around in the wind. A man was also spotted walking off with money.
But Det Insp Dave Massey, of Oldham CID, said the children helped to collect the money and gave it to a PCSO.
Most of it has now been returned and he added: “I think these children deserve a lot of praise for stepping in to help us like this. Young people often get unfairly tarnished by the media, older people and society in general.
“When they make a really positive contribution like this, they deserve all the credit they can get. In gathering up the cash and handing it to the PCSO they saved the bank a lot of money.”
