A FAMILY had a shock when this car plunged 15ft over a wall into their garden
A family had a narrow escape when a car careered off the road, ploughed through a fence and landed in their garden — just yards from their back door.
The driver of the BMW then scrambled from the wrecked car, exchanged words with the home-owner and then fled the scene.
Onlookers gathered at the site after the car plunged 15ft over the wall from Milnrow Road, Shaw, into the back garden of the house in St Joseph’s Close.
It is believed that the car narrowly missed a woman pushing a pram after it left the road and mounted the pavement while travelling towards Milnrow.
The father-of-four, who was in the house at the time, said: “I heard the screeching down the road.
“I looked out and saw the car crash through the fence and into the garden.
“I ran outside expecting to help someone who was hurt. The driver climbed out the car, he was acting erratic.”
The man, who did not want to be named, said: “My garden was wrecked. He started offering me £200 to fix it.
“He then began to get aggressive so I backed off, then he ran.
“People said that they had seen his car hit the kerb and lose control. There could have been children playing in the garden at that time of day and the car came to rest only 6ft from the children’s trampoline, so it’s lucky that no-one was injured.”
The driver is described the man around 6ft 2ins and aged around 30. The accident happened onlyyards from new speed-activated “slow down” signs, installed a week ago.
Safety concerns have been raised by neighbours, who say that motorbikes and cars constantly speed down the road. One neighbour said: “It was an unbelievable sight. There were young children in the house at the time, anything could have happened.
“The houses are so close to the road, there needs to be some kind of metal barrier there.”
Police attended and the BMW was lifted out of the garden by crane.
No arrests have yet been made in connection with the crash which happened on Friday at 6.25pm.
