POLICE have made five arrests in connection with the murder in a doctor’s surgery car park of Junaid Khan.
The 21-year-old from Werneth was gunned down outside the surgery in Block Lane, Chadderton, on July 9 last year.
As Junaid, of Cotton Mill Crescent, lay helpless on the ground his killer stood over him and shot him again.
Yesterday, officers arrested four men, aged between 22 and 28, and a 27-year-old woman following raids at homes in Worcester Street and Coppice Street, Werneth, and Cheadle Hulme.
The five are currently being questioned in police custody.
At the time of the shooting, police appealed for community for help in catching the killer and organised visits to local mosques to hand out leaflets appealing for information. A mobile police station was also set up on the site of the murder.
A silver Mitsubishi Shogun seen in the area around the time of the shooting was found on fire in the car park of Italian restaurant Ancora, on Broadway.
Hundreds of mourners gathered in Werneth Park for Junaid’s funeral and his father, Mumtaz Khan, issued a fresh appeal for information on the 12-month anniversary of his son’s death.
Anyone with any information about the shooting is asked to call the major incident team on 0161-856 3691 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
