AN OLDHAM pub and restaurant has proved itself second to naan with this record-breaking whopper.

The Clayton Green Brewers Fayre, off Chadderton Way, baked the World’s Biggest Naan Bread to celebrate the launch of its new curry nights.

The giant 10ft by 4ft creation is the equivalent of 167 normal size naan breads and took bakers more than five hours to make and eight staff to carry.

The all-conquering naan, which was soon polished off by the Brewers Fayre team, is believed to have smashed the previous record set by Asda in 2004, which measured 7ft 7ins by 3ft 3ins.

Brewers Fayre worked with naan bread specialists Honeytop Speciality foods to bake the bulky bread. It was a traditional plain naan, made using an authentic recipe and weighed in at 90lbs.

Brewers Fayre spokesman, Melanie Owen, said: “We are really excited to have created the biggest naan on earth and we can’t think of a more fun way to launch our curry nights.”

On the Thursday curry night, customers can choose from a range of seven of the nation’s favourite curries and a 125ml glass of wine or a selected pint for £6.99. For those with less spicy tastes, a Tuesday Pie Night and Friday Chip Shop Night is planned.
