House extension extended too far

OLDHAM COUNCIL PLANNING COMMITTEE
THE owners of a house whose new extension spilled on to a neighbour’s land have been told to take it down.

And in what was described as an “utterly outrageous” move by the council, the neighbour, Shahnaz Sadiq, has been served with an enforcement notice because it was built on her land, despite her appealing for help from Oldham Council when she realised what was happening.

The two-storey extension, at a house in Manley Road, Oldham, strayed on to land belonging to Mrs Sadiq, who alerted the council as soon as the footings were dug.

But the council moved so slowly the extension was built before action was taken.

The planning committee was urged by officers to approve a new planning application to adapt the extension by shoertneing it by three-quarters of a metre, to remove it from the neighbouring property.

But when councillors heard it had also been built deeper than the original plans, they decided to refuse permission and start court proceedings for non-compliance against the owners.
