OLDHAM Golf Club treasurer and former captain Dave Beech is at the centre of a money-laundering investigation by South Yorkshire Police.
Beech, who was captain at the Lees Road club in 2003 and treasurer from 2005, has been interviewed over irregularities involving the golf club and two companies with which Beech had connections.
It is understood the irregularities involve over £50,000 moving between accounts in the past 20 months. He has been bailed pending further investigations, has been dismissed from his job and has resigned from Oldham Golf Club.
A spokeswoman for South Yorkshire Police said: “A 59-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the theft of money from a commercial premises in the Penistone area. The man is currently on police bail pending further enquiries.”
Mr Iain McGloughlin, captain at Oldham Golf Club said: “This has been a very difficult time for all at the club, but we have been co-operating fully with the police and we can reassure members that the club is not adversely affected financially by this and its future is assured.”
