A DOUBLE celebration marked the official opening of Oasis Academy Oldham.
Ceremonies were held at the school’s Butterworth Lane and Roman Road sites, formerly South Chadderton and Kaskenmoor schools, which closed in the summer.
They included a balloon launch, performances by pupils and tours.
The academy is part of Oldham’s multi-million schools rebuilding programme and is run by the education foundation Oasis Community Learning.
It will move into a new building on the former Brook Mill site in Hollins in 2012.
Principal John Alder described the opening as a bright start to a brilliantly bright future.
He said: “Towards the end of last term, there was great excitement among the students who were really looking forward to the change and our new Year 7s were bubbling with excitement when they entered the academy in September.
“While there will be challenges ahead, we are confident that the integration of both predecessor schools, and the wider community, will bring positive outcomes for the whole borough and give our students even greater opportunity to fulfil their potential.”
Oasis runs 12 academies in England.
Chief executive officer and founder Steve Chalke said: “Our track record demonstrates that we are passionate about bringing communities together and bringing change where needed.
“Our academic achievements demonstrate that with high-quality staff and a good learning environment, all students can achieve.”
