Remaining homes ‘gone by Christmas’
Demolition of the remaining homes on Primrose Bank should be finished by Christmas.
The deadline was revealed when Oldham Council’s deputy leader Jackie Stanton visited the site.
The second phase of the demolition of 120 obsolete properties is under way following the demolition of 100 homes earlier this year.
Flats and maisonettes, which date from the 1960s, will make way for 192 new homes on the Ashton Road “gateway” to Oldham, for rent or buying.
Remaining council-owned homes will be refurbished and there are plans for recreational amenities and community centre.
Some 250 tenants and owner-occupiers have now moved. Only a handful of residents await alternate accommodation.
The council will sign a contract with its preferred bidder Inspiral — a consortium between Oldham Council, Regenter, Great Places Housing Group and building company Rok — later this month.
The first of the new homes could be completed in early 2012.
