HELPING our heroes . . . Hannah Morrow
Shaw Student Hannah Morrow has hired a DJ with a difference for a fund-raising bash in aid of the Help for Heroes charity.
While most 15-year-olds would choose dance, indie or R&B, Hannah has hired a DJ to play 1940s music, including Vera Lynn, at her tea dance.
And she will be wearing a sleek evening gown and gloves as she greets guests at Tara Leisure in Grains Road, Shaw.
Hannah is studying at Crompton House School and at the City Learning Centre in Chadderton, taking her GCSEs and a Creative and Media Diploma.
As part of her diploma studies, Hannah has to create and publicise an event, so she chose a 1940s-themed social evening called Forties Memoirs.
Hannah, who was also a St Mary’s Junior School pupil, in High Crompton, has approached local businesses for donations and raffle prizes and registered the event with the Help for Heroes charity which is sending banners to decorate the room.
Hannah is hoping to sell 120 tickets for the event which takes place on November 20.
Hannah, who has a 14-year-old brother Jack, said: “The 1940s is just something I’m interested in — I love history! And raising money for Help for Heroes links in with the 1940s theme and wartime.
“The room will be decorated with Union Jacks and we’ll have a DJ playing 1940s music.
“I have a 1940s evening dress which is long and elegant and I’m thinking of wearing gloves.”
Hannah is getting help from Chicken Shack Retro in Shaw and the Friends of the Forties website, as well as her own research.
